A Black Dove? El Pais?

Ok. I'm as surprised as anyone that Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize after only a few months on the job. Man, Europe really, really, hated George Bush. Just having a new guy in there is getting them way excited - even if he hasn't done anything yet. Excited enough to give him the Nobel Peace Prize for ... not being Bush.

But what is going on with this Black Dove cartoon in El Pais by Forges? Or maybe it's a crow? Is it absolutely necessary to continue to obsess on this president's "Blackness"?

They really do not have a clue on how to deal with - or start ignoring - race do they?

Obama's black?

'Hate' doesn't begin to describe what I feel for Dubya. Not even close.

It's amusing to me how Spanish media (and by extension Spanish society) love to harp on how racist the U.S. is, and yet these type of odd things (a black "peace" dove, an entire basketball team slanting their eyes in an ad, archaic idioms that talk about working as hard as a Chinese man/a black man) are blindly accepted and par for the course in Spain but would raise objections in the U.S.

Regarding Obama winning the Nobel, he doesn't deserve it, at least not at this stage of his presidency. He should turn it down and tell them to award it to someone who really did something to help world peace.

Well Keefieboy, It's obvious they gave Obama the Nobel solely because he is not Bush, not because of anything he has actually done. Kind of makes the prize ridiculous though - if you ask me.

And what has changed? Iraq - no change in policy, Afghanistan - more troops already sent and more probably coming, Drones bombing Pakistan - still happening, CIA Renditions - still a go, Guantanamo - open for business.

But he does talk to everyone a lot more.
